Two different activities are both called "trading crypto". One is buying coins on an exchange and holding them in a wallet. The other is taking a leveraged position on the price without touching the asset. How a Crypto CFD Works
Open a long BTCUSD CFD at $67,400, close at $69,100, and the $1,700 difference settles in your account currency, multiplied by position size. Short works identically in reverse. The general contract mechanics are in what is CFD trading.
What you are pricing. A crypto CFD tracks a reference price the broker derives from underlying venues. That reference is a construction, and crypto prices differ measurably between exchanges at any moment.
Sizing. Crypto CFDs are sized in units of the coin. With a contract size of 1 BTC per lot, 0.10 lot is 0.1 BTC — about $6,740 of exposure at $67,400. A $500 move in Bitcoin is $50 on that position.
Leverage and Why the Ratio Misleads
Crypto CFDs carry lower leverage than currency pairs, and the reason is arithmetic rather than caution.
Consider 1:5 on Bitcoin against the 1:200 available on a major pair. The 1:5 looks conservative. But the headline ratio means nothing until it is multiplied by how far the instrument moves. Bitcoin routinely moves 5% in a day; EURUSD moves 0.6%.

What Moves Crypto Prices

Regulation. Among the sharpest short-term movers, and almost always unscheduled.
Infrastructure events. Exchange, lender or stablecoin failures have transmitted across the whole asset class.

Liquidation cascades. Because leverage is widely used in the underlying market, declines trigger forced selling that triggers further declines. Trading Hours and Weekend Liquidity
Crypto CFDs are typically quoted close to 24/7, including weekends, with a short daily maintenance break.
Two consequences pull against each other. Weekend gap risk is reduced, because the instrument is not frozen while news develops. But weekend liquidity is materially thinner — institutional participation drops, spreads widen, and it takes less volume to move the price. The decision rule is clean. If the objective is to own cryptocurrency — hold it long term, transfer it, use it — a CFD does not do that.
