Trading Signals - 9 October 2026

24 trade ideas for 9 October 2026: 22 long and 2 short. Entry, stop and two targets are given for each, with the reasoning and the level at which the idea is abandoned.

Today's framework

Friday 9 October 2026. Trump's statement that he will not strike Iran before the midterm elections stopped yesterday's selling, and bond yields are heading for their largest weekly fall in three months. This is relief, not a turn in the trend: Brent is still above 100 dollars and the blockade continues. On the equity side the new main risk is artificial intelligence funding: OpenAI's revenue came in below expectations and Firmus cancelled its listing. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the 10 October crash, and thin liquidity can raise volatility.

Every idea on the list is medium-term and all are taken at the market. The setups fall into three kinds — a pullback within an intact trend, relative strength, and an overstretched fall — and each note names the one that applies.

Trade ideas

The line under each name is the instrument symbol and every idea on this list is medium-term. Entry is given as a band, and the note under the table opens with the kind of setup the idea is.

  • 1. BTC — long. Pullback within trend. At 82,470 dollars after recovering from an intraday one-month low of 80,394; Trump's statement that he will not strike Iran before the midterm elections stopped the selling. There is a sign of a turn in the data: 78% of liquidations in the past four hours now come from short positions, so those betting on a fall have started to be squeezed. The trend is still up and the price sits above the 200-day average by 10.7%. Action: buy in the 81,500-82,800 band, target 87,000. Invalidated if: A close below 79,450.
  • 2. ETH — long. Pullback within trend. At 2,495 dollars and a 2.96% fall yesterday took the weekly loss to 7.81%; momentum has approached oversold at 38 and the trend has turned mixed. The week's most important crypto number is here: 356 million dollars of ether positions were liquidated yesterday against 298 million in bitcoin, even though bitcoin's market value is five times larger. Scaled to size, ether took six times the damage, which shows that the same selling bites far harder here when liquidity thins. Action: small buy in the 2,480-2,520 band, target 2,690. Invalidated if: A close below 2,400.
  • 3. META — long. Pullback within trend and relative strength. At 720.89 dollars and the strongest setup today: two signals are positive at once on the candidate list and it is 9.5% ahead of the index over the past month. It fell only 0.06% yesterday and was shielded from the heavy selling in chip stocks; Nvidia fell 2.94%, AMD 3.9% and TSM 3.01% while there was no damage here. In the artificial intelligence funding debate the hardware side is being hit, not the platform side. Action: buy in the 715-725 band, target 807. Invalidated if: A close below 663.
  • 4. TSM — long. Pullback within trend. At 457.99 dollars after a sharp 3.01% pullback yesterday; it is one of the two highest-scoring setups on the candidate list. The price has come down to the past month's average and momentum is mid-range at 55, so the overbought pressure has cleared completely. The cause of the selling is not the company itself but OpenAI's revenue figure coming in below expectations. Action: buy in the 455-462 band, target 500. Invalidated if: A close below 430.
  • 5. XOM — long. Relative strength. At 168.50 dollars and up 2.71% yesterday, within 3.2% of its one-year high; momentum is strong at 64 but not overbought. Energy was bought yesterday while artificial intelligence stocks were sold, and that divergence lasts as long as oil stays above 100 dollars. Trump's statement pulled the price back to 103 but the blockade stays fully in force. Action: buy in the 166.50-169.00 band, target 179. Invalidated if: A close below 159.
  • 6. CVX — long. Relative strength. At 211.55 dollars and with 3.12% yesterday it was among the strongest large stocks in the market; momentum is 59 and the price is only 2.9% below its one-year high. The same thesis as Exxon but it performed more strongly yesterday. Action: buy in the 209.00-212.00 band, target 222. Invalidated if: A close below 201.
  • 7. Gold — long. Overstretched. At 4,220 dollars and up 1.52% yesterday, turning off a two-month low; with a weekly gain of 0.43% it is the only name in the metals group set to close higher. Yields heading for their largest weekly fall in three months has eased the pressure. Momentum is still close to oversold at 36, so there is room for a recovery. Action: small buy in the 4,190-4,230 band, target 4,330. Invalidated if: A close below 4,128.
  • 8. Silver — long. Overstretched. At 60.59 dollars and with 2.58% yesterday it was the strongest of the metals group; the price sits below the 200-day average by 6.7% and momentum is 36. It is following gold's recovery but still closes the week with a loss. Action: small buy in the 59.80-60.80 band, target 63.20. Invalidated if: A close below 58.90.
  • 9. Copper — long. Pullback within trend. At 6.656 dollars and up 2.10% yesterday; the weekly gain is 2.68% and the trend is up in every time frame. The price is only 2.6% below its one-year high and it recovered alongside the precious metals. Artificial intelligence infrastructure investment remains a direct source of demand for this metal. Action: buy in the 6.60-6.68 band, target 7.00. Invalidated if: A close below 6.40.
  • 10. Brent Crude — long. Pullback within trend. At 102.88 dollars after touching 105.91 intraday and easing back on Trump's statement; the weekly gain is 0.56%. Trump said there would be no military operation before 3 November but added that the blockade would continue in full. A tanker was attacked off Qatar on Thursday night and the United States sanctioned 17 ships tied to the shadow fleet, so the pressure on the supply side has not lifted. Action: buy in the 101.50-103.50 band, target 111. Invalidated if: A close below 96.
  • 11. WTI — long. Pullback within trend. At 90.31 dollars and the spread to Brent has reached 12.50 dollars; historically that level is only seen in periods of market stress. A spread this wide shows the shipping pressure on international oil and leaves the US benchmark relatively cheap. Action: buy in the 89.50-91.00 band, target 98. Invalidated if: A close below 85.
  • 12. AAPL — long. Relative strength. At 340.42 dollars and up 1.11% yesterday, within 1.4% of its one-year high; the weekly gain is 3.06% and the trend is up in every time frame. Staying entirely outside the artificial intelligence funding debate shows its defensive quality; there was buying here yesterday while chip stocks were sold. Action: buy in the 337-342 band, target 362. Invalidated if: A close below 322.
  • 13. GOOGL — long. Pullback within trend. At 348.29 dollars and down 0.63% yesterday; the weekly gain is 2.97% and the trend is up. It pulled back after touching the past month's high of 356.83 intraday, so there is buyer interest but no follow-through. Action: buy in the 345-350 band, target 374. Invalidated if: A close below 328.
  • 14. NVDA — long. Pullback within trend. At 230.48 dollars and a 2.94% fall yesterday took it to an intraday 229.85; the weekly loss is 0.16% and momentum has come down to 55. The selling came from OpenAI's revenue figure, not from the company's own business. The price sits above the 200-day average by 13.3% and the trend is up. Action: buy in the 229-233 band, target 250. Invalidated if: A close below 222.
  • 15. MSFT — long. Pullback within trend. At 522.61 dollars and down 1.35% yesterday; the weekly gain is still 1.91% and the trend is up in every time frame. Momentum is healthy at 62 and the price sits above the 200-day average by 15.8%. Action: buy in the 519-525 band, target 556. Invalidated if: A close below 498.
  • 16. AMZN — long. Pullback within trend. At 254.06 dollars and down 2.25% yesterday; the weekly gain is still 2.35% and the trend is up. The cloud side is a beneficiary of the artificial intelligence funding wave but it could not decouple in yesterday's selling. Momentum is mid-range at 51. Action: buy in the 252-256 band, target 272. Invalidated if: A close below 240.
  • 17. AMD — long. Pullback within trend. At 620.68 dollars and with a 3.9% fall yesterday it was the worst of the chip side; momentum has come down to 61 and the price is 5.8% below its one-year high. The monthly gain is still 19.1% and it sits above the 200-day average by 48.6%. The fall is sharp but the trend is intact. Action: small buy in the 615-625 band, target 680. Invalidated if: A close below 590.
  • 18. SOL — long. Pullback within trend. At 110.51 dollars and with a 4.13% fall yesterday it was among the worst of the majors; momentum has come down to 43 and the price is clearly below the past month's average. Against that, the trend is up in every time frame and it sits above the 200-day average by 16%. At 15:00 today the network cuts its block time to 200 milliseconds, a concrete technical improvement. Action: buy in the 109-112 band, target 120. Invalidated if: A close below 104.
  • 19. AVAX — long. Relative strength. At 10.36 dollars and down 4.65% yesterday; the monthly gain is still 29.4% and it continues to outpace bitcoin over the past month. Momentum has come down to 49, so the overbought pressure has cleared completely. The trend has turned mixed but it stays above the 200-day average by 19.8%. Action: small buy in the 10.20-10.50 band, target 11.90. Invalidated if: A close below 9.70.
  • 20. S&P 500 — long. Pullback within trend. At 7,765 and down 0.47% yesterday; it recovered after falling to 7,731 intraday. The divergence is notable: the Dow closed higher while the Nasdaq fell 1.39%, so money moved out of technology into energy and defensive names. The weekly gain is still 1.29% and the trend is up. Action: buy in the 7,750-7,790 band, target 7,980. Invalidated if: A close below 7,690.
  • 21. Nasdaq 100 — long. Pullback within trend. At 30,726 and a 1.39% fall yesterday took it to an intraday 30,556; momentum has come down to 59. The cause of the fall is concern about artificial intelligence funding: OpenAI's revenue came in below expectations and Nvidia-backed Firmus cancelled its 5 billion dollar listing. Futures are 0.5% higher this morning. The trend is still up but the fragility has increased. Action: small buy in the 30,700-30,900 band, target 31,600. Invalidated if: A close below 30,550.
  • 22. USDCHF — long. Pullback within trend. At 0.8307 and down 0.27% yesterday; the trend is up in every time frame and momentum is 66. The Fed is tightening while the Swiss rate is at zero, and the rate gap is widening in one direction only. The price is above the past month's average. Action: buy in the 0.8290-0.8320 band, target 0.8420. Invalidated if: A close below 0.8270.
  • 23. CHFJPY — short. Pullback within trend. At 190.42 and up 0.36% yesterday; the trend is down in every time frame and the price sits below the 200-day average by 2.8%. Takaichi's message of respect for central bank independence works in the yen's favour, while the Swiss rate stays at zero. Momentum is mid-range at 41. Action: sell in the 190.20-190.60 band, target 186. Invalidated if: A close above 192.50.
  • 24. Coffee — short. Pullback within trend. At 287.85 cents and down 0.42% yesterday; the monthly loss is 9.82% and the trend is down in every time frame. The price sits below the 200-day average by 9.2% and it still gives a pullback-within-trend setup on the candidate list. Momentum is mid-range at 42. Action: sell in the 288-293 band, target 249. Invalidated if: A close above 313.73.
