Trading Signals - 14 October 2026

17 trade ideas for 14 October 2026: 12 long and 5 short. Entry, stop and two targets are given for each, with the reasoning and the level at which the idea is abandoned.

Today's framework

Wednesday 14 October 2026. The list is built around one event: the CPI release at 15:30. Several ideas state their direction, their entry or the level that ends them in terms of that reading.

Twelve of the ideas are long and five short. Eight are taken at the market; the rest wait for a trigger, a break or the data itself. Energy is the one setup the notes describe as independent of the release.

Trade ideas

The entry condition says whether the idea is taken at the market or only once a stated level, a confirmation or the data release is met.

  • 1. BTC — long. Leverage was flushed yesterday; positioning is healthier after the forced closures, and Williams' dovish tone is supportive. The direction depends on the 15:30 CPI: a mild reading puts 85,000 in view. Invalidated if: Below 81,000.
  • 2. ETH — long. The weakest performance among the majors and behind BTC. 2,500 acts as support, where the 16 October put option sits. It is a long while BTC holds above 81,000; if that breaks it is the first position to close. For a clean long, BTC is preferred.
  • 3. SOL — short. Relative weakness against BTC. The Alpenglow upgrade on 21 October will lower the transaction count and carries the risk of negative perception. Invalidated if: Above 110.5 in a broad crypto recovery.
  • 4. XRP — short. The weakest of the majors. The x402 AI-agent volume looks high in transaction count but the value carried is low, around 7,000 XRP; the news is not carrying the price. Below 1.3112 opens the downside. The risk is a general crypto rally.
  • 5. Gold — short. The direction depends on the CPI. Short only below 4,167, the hot inflation scenario, targeting 4,091-4,050. Invalidated if: Above 4,167; a mild reading then puts the 4,275 resistance in view.
  • 6. Silver — short. A weak technical picture with a clear pullback from the high. A break below 58.88 speeds up the downside. A hot CPI is an added pressure, which is why a triggered entry was preferred.
  • 7. Copper — long. China's September exports came in above expectations at 36%, which supports industrial metals. A long in the direction of the trend on a break above 6.83. Copper is also an indicator of global growth.
  • 8. Brent Crude — long. The strongest setup of the day and the one most independent of the CPI. The Saudi-Houthi conflict and the tension in Hormuz have raised the supply risk; it is rising for a fifth day. Paul Tudor Jones is long and expects a further rise. Below 102.50 the setup no longer applies, and above 108.81 the position is added to.
  • 9. S&P 500 — long. The trend is up, the VIX is low and the Fed's tone is dovish, so pullbacks are buying opportunities. The main risk is the CPI: a hot core reading and a close below 7,786 break the setup. Entry comes after the data.
  • 10. Nasdaq 100 — long. Chip stocks broke a five-day fall; ASML today and TSMC tomorrow are the catalysts. A dovish Fed supports it, but the CPI and the results land on the same day, a double risk. Below 30,372 calls for care, and entry comes on confirmation.
  • 11. EURUSD — long. Oversold at an extreme; a weak dollar and Lagarde's message on fiscal discipline gave support. A tactical reaction within a structural downtrend, short-lived. Invalidated if: Below 1.1155, on a hot CPI.
  • 12. GBPUSD — long. Healey's statement that the budget would be funded through taxation gave confidence to sterling, supported by the weak dollar. Invalidated if: Below 1.3200; the main risk is a hot CPI.
  • 13. USDJPY — short. The yen leg of the weak-dollar theme; there is the risk of a hawkish surprise from the BOJ's Himino on Thursday. Above 159, on a hot CPI, the setup no longer applies. The real determinant is US long-term rates.
  • 14. AUDUSD — long. The strongest of the positions against the dollar: Chinese data and support from copper, with a turn off oversold. Invalidated if: Below 0.6950; risk-off or a hot CPI is the main threat.
  • 15. XOM — long. Leadership in the energy sector; in line with the rise in Brent and at a 52-week high. A triggered long above 174.89. High correlation with CVX, so one of them is enough.
  • 16. META — long. The relative strength leader and a principal beneficiary of AI spending, close to its high. A long on a break above 779.82. The price is stretched, so only with confirmation of the break.
  • 17. AMD — long. The highest-scoring of the candidate setups; a recovery in the chip sector with the ASML and TSMC catalysts. The 7% pullback on the week is an entry opportunity. Invalidated if: Below 570.
