24 trade ideas for 23 October 2026: 7 long and 17 short. Entry, stop and two targets are given for each, with the reasoning and the level at which the idea is abandoned.
Today's framework
Friday 23 October 2026. The list has turned almost entirely to the sell side. The Nasdaq made its sharpest fall since 5 June, the chip index lost 6.7%, and Meta's negative free cash flow put the funding question at the centre. Oil moves the other way: Brent is at 114 dollars after Aramco evacuated its headquarters.
Seven of the ideas are long and seventeen short. All are taken at the market except bitcoin, which waits for a confirmed close. Bonds had their best day in three years while gold fell, and the energy names are the only ones left carrying the buy side.
Trade ideas
Every idea on this list is medium-term and entry is given as a band. The note under the table gives the reasoning and the level at which the idea is abandoned.

- 1. XOM — long. At 178.23 dollars with the price making successively higher highs and higher lows; over the past month it returned 10.5% more than the market and it is only 1.2% below its one-year high. It stayed flat yesterday while equities were sold. Brent is at 114 dollars and Aramco evacuated its headquarters in Dhahran; March contracts are also above 100 dollars, so the market is pricing a lasting supply problem. Action: buy in the 177.50-178.80 band, target 180.31. Invalidated if: A close below 174.63.
- 2. CVX — long. At 226.68 dollars with the price holding its rising high-low structure; over the past month it is 10.8% ahead of the market and it is within 1% of its one-year high. This stock stayed flat yesterday while the Nasdaq fell 2.9%. Action: buy in the 226-227.50 band, target 229.04. Invalidated if: A close below 222.86.
- 3. AAPL — long. At 348.22 dollars with the price in a rising high-low structure; over the past month it is 4.2% ahead of the market and only 0.04% below its one-year high, so practically at the high. It rose 1.23% yesterday, decoupling completely from the chip selling. It remains the only large technology name outside the spending debate. Action: buy in the 347-348.50 band, target 348.36. Invalidated if: A close below 342.28.
- 4. Brent Crude — long. At 114.31 dollars with the price in a rising high-low structure; the weekly gain is 7.92% and the monthly 10.89%. Aramco evacuated its headquarters and March contracts are above 100 dollars. That means the pricing of a lasting supply problem rather than a short-term premium, and it leaves the Fed in a bind. Action: buy in the 113.50-114.60 band, target 114.67. Invalidated if: A close below 112.72.
- 5. WTI — long. At 100.67 dollars with the price in a rising high-low structure; it rose 1.21% yesterday and moved above 100 dollars. The spread to Brent is 13.60 dollars. Action: buy in the 100-100.90 band, target 100.97. Invalidated if: A close below 98.84.
- 6. MSFT — long. At 521.08 dollars with the price holding its rising high-low structure; over the past month it is 5.2% ahead of the market. But it fell 2.23% yesterday and the weekly loss is 3.40%, with momentum easing to 51. The structure is up but there is short-term pressure, so the size is small. Action: small buy in the 519-523 band, target 533.60. Invalidated if: A close below 520.30. It is not traded on MT5.
- 7. META — short. At 648.85 dollars and a 6.98% fall yesterday gave it its worst day since July; over the past month it is 16.1% behind the market and the monthly loss is 12.80%. The cause is a single line in the results: third-quarter free cash flow of minus 2.12 billion dollars, against plus 10.63 billion a year earlier. The company burned cash for the first time in more than a decade and its credit risk premium set a record. Action: sell in the 652-662 band, target 639.69. Invalidated if: A close above 681.07.
- 8. ASML — short. At 1,560.54 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; it fell 6.93% yesterday and over the past month it is 8.9% behind the market. The monthly loss is 10.55% and the price is left above the 200-day average by only 0.3%. An Nvidia executive spoke of a capital shortage, and the funding bottleneck at small artificial intelligence companies hits the equipment side hardest. Action: sell in the 1,565-1,590 band, target 1,555.94. Invalidated if: A close above 1,628.
- 9. TSM — short. At 412.35 dollars and 8.1% behind the market over the past month; it fell 4.52% yesterday and the monthly loss is 7.66%. The stock keeps falling despite reporting a record quarter, because the problem is not the company's business but the sector's cost of funding. Action: sell in the 414-420 band, target 410.22. Invalidated if: A close above 422.
- 10. GOOGL — short. At 324.22 dollars and down 3.15% yesterday; the weekly loss is 7.16% and over the past month it is 4.8% behind the market. The price has moved below the 200-day average and momentum is weak at 33. Action: sell in the 326-331 band, target 322. Invalidated if: A close above 331.50.
- 11. AMD — short. At 507.93 dollars and 18.9% behind the market over the past month; an 8.10% fall yesterday made it one of the worst on a day the chip index lost 6.7%. The monthly loss is 17.36% and momentum at 37 is close to oversold, so the size is small. Action: small sell in the 512-525 band, target 502.60. Invalidated if: A close above 530.
- 12. Nasdaq 100 — short. At 28,958.69 and with 2.90% yesterday it made its sharpest fall since 5 June; the chip index lost 6.7%. The weekly loss is 3.26% and momentum is 37. The price is left above the 200-day average by only 3.1%. Action: sell in the 29,000-29,200 band, target 28,855. Invalidated if: A close above 29,412.
- 13. CAC 40 — short. At 7,811.26 and the price has entered a downtrend; it fell 1.39% yesterday and sits below the 200-day average by 4.4%. The French yield is around 5% and the Moody's review comes today. Action: sell in the 7,820-7,845 band, target 7,791.63. Invalidated if: A close above 7,860.
- 14. Silver — short. At 54.36 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; the weekly loss is 4.37% and the monthly 15.57%. It is 55.2% below its one-year high and touched 53.52 yesterday. Metals falling while bonds rise shows the market now chooses bonds as its hedge. Action: sell in the 54.50-55.00 band, target 53.52. Invalidated if: A close above 57.00.
- 15. Platinum — short. At 1,573 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; the monthly loss is 13.69% and it is 44.9% below its one-year high. Momentum is weak at 34. Action: sell in the 1,576-1,592 band, target 1,556.50. Invalidated if: A close above 1,620.
- 16. Palladium — short. At 1,054.50 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; the weekly loss is 5.93% and the monthly 16.17%. It touched 1,036 yesterday and momentum at 27 is deep in oversold, so the size is small. Action: small sell in the 1,056-1,070 band, target 1,036. Invalidated if: A close above 1,090.
- 17. Natural Gas — short. At 2.729 dollars and the price has entered a downtrend; with a 15.67% weekly loss it is the worst in commodities and it fell 2.40% yesterday. The price sits below the 200-day average by 11.7%. The support ahead of winter has disappeared completely. Action: sell in the 2.735-2.765 band, target 2.722. Invalidated if: A close above 2.840.
- 18. Gold — short. At 4,037.70 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; a 0.56% fall yesterday took it to 4,000.90 and the weekly loss is 3.17%. Momentum is weak at 34. Gold falling on a day when bonds had their best day in three years is notable: investors are choosing bonds rather than gold as their hedge. Action: sell in the 4,042-4,060 band, target 4,000.90. Invalidated if: A close above 4,164.
- 19. ETH — short. At 2,404.73 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; the monthly loss is 12.67% and it is 7.1% behind bitcoin over the past month. It fell 1.55% yesterday and momentum is weak at 39. Action: sell in the 2,410-2,430 band, target 2,381.11. Invalidated if: A close above 2,482.
- 20. XRP — short. At 1.3266 dollars with the price in a falling high-low structure; the monthly loss is 15.65% and it is 8.5% behind bitcoin over the past month. It fell 1.62% yesterday and touched 1.3065. Action: sell in the 1.3290-1.3400 band, target 1.3065. Invalidated if: A close above 1.3700.
- 21. AVAX — short. At 9.31 dollars and 12.3% behind bitcoin over the past month; the weekly loss is 7.29% and the monthly 17.71%. It touched 9.098 yesterday and remains the weakest in crypto. Action: small sell in the 9.33-9.45 band, target 9.098. Invalidated if: A close above 9.72.
- 22. ADA — short. At 0.2169 dollars and 9.8% behind bitcoin over the past month; the weekly loss is 5.74% and the monthly 14.71%. The price sits below the 200-day average by 5.6%. Action: small sell in the 0.2175-0.2210 band, target 0.2116. Invalidated if: A close above 0.2270.
- 23. CHFJPY — short. At 190.87 and the price is in a downtrend; it fell 0.51% yesterday and sits below the 200-day average by 2.3%. Japanese inflation running above target and the expectation of a rate rise in December work in the yen's favour. Action: sell in the 190.95-191.30 band, target 190.43. Invalidated if: A close above 191.95.
- 24. BTC — long. At 81,837 dollars and a 1.25% fall yesterday took it to 80,939; the price sits above the 200-day average by 8.2% and slightly ahead of the market over the past month, so the long-term structure is intact. In the short term, equities and crypto were sold together while bonds were bought, which shows bitcoin is not treated as a hedge in the current regime. The direction is up but the entry depends on confirmation, because chasing a buy before 82,100 breaks is expensive in this environment. Action: buy if a close above 82,100 arrives, target 84,377. Invalidated if: A close below 80,939.
